We want to briefly mention for any tourists that most bakeries here will have pastry, donut, and croissant based desserts. If you are looking for things like cakes and cookies they can be harder to come by and quality will vary.
Cakes in particular will also be very expensive, we recently had to remove a place because they were selling ‘mini cakes’ that were about 1/3rd the size of a legit cake for the mere price of 45 euros. Our suggestion is to indulge in what the locals do well and enjoy your cookies and cakes when you get somewhere that they are easier to find.
With that said we tested out many places and ByKate had by far the best combination of flavor and value making them our top place to buy cakes in Barcelona. They aren’t a bakery, more of a brunch spot, but you can get a large tasty slice of cake for a reasonable price so they definitely deserve their listing.
Freshly baked breads, pastries, and cakes are available at Forn Mistral.
Baluard Barceloneta sells delectable baguettes, breads, panettones, and more.
Anyone that wants to sample a variety of cheesecakes should head to El Arbol.
To be honest we aren’t sure if the Forn Rovira on Sants is better than any of their other locations, all we can tell you is that there was almost always a line out the door when we walked by at this particular spot which wasn’t the case at the others. Maybe the people who live in town know something that we don’t.

These donut shops are a great way to start your morning:

Be sure to read our note just under the bakeries list, cupcakes and cakes are not easy to come by and if you show up at the first places search engines suggest they may be tourist traps selling them for way too much money so be sure to check out the prices and the sizes before you buy anything.
There is one place in particular that we used to list here but we removed it after seeing the size of their ‘mini cakes’ that they sell for 45 euros a piece meaning you would be paying over 100 euros for a normal size cake.

Local candy stores should have a wide variety of sugary treats to choose from:
